Once More Through the Gate....?

There's a lot of talk on twitter about convincing MGM to relaunch Stargate, in some form or another.
I'm definitely on the fence on this subject. I, frankly, don't want more stargate if it equals bad stargate. There is no way the Fab Four are ever getting back together. And I imagine that Michael, Amanda and Chris, while not actively running from their stargate past, have spent a lot of time trying to convince people (casting type people) that they can do other genres. We might get lucky enough to get them for an occasional cameo. And by that, I don't mean a recording of Daniel rehashing the history of the stargate program. While it was satisfying on the surface, it was like ordering a cheeseburger and discovering there was a multitude of cheese and no burger...
What I'm afraid will happen is that some folks will use that as a springboard to stroke their own egos, forward their own agendas and the heart of the stargate mythology will end up with a spear in an uncomfortable spot.
So, let's be realistic: what story is left to be told? Goa'uld? Kicked their ass. Replicators? Melted them down. Ori? Shined a little truth and left them in ashes.
So we're gonna have to create a new enemy? It'll have to be a big new baddie, more ruthless and terrifying than any we've ever seen. Because it can't be someone that's been around all this time and we've just never met them, right? How would that work?
And who would be our heroes du jour? There at least has to be something familiar, some hook to get us old fans interested. I freely admit I wouldn't mind seeing Walter dialing it up but I kind of come up blank after that. Ideally, it would have to be something that would drag the original SG-1 back together one last time, then to launch the new cast off.
Or do you do it Star Wars style? Bring back the originals only to...you know....spoiler alert...not have them around anymore? It would be great, dramatically, but who, realistically, wants to kill them off? Not I!
Or maybe you have someone say, "you know, it would be great but General Carter went down with Phoenix, Master Teal'c ran out of tretonin while trapped on PX-something and Dr. Jackson? Well, there's a grave at Arlington but who knows what's in it?"
I yearn, like most of us, for some GOOD stargate, Not just good enough stargate, not so-so stargate but good stargate. Stargate that makes me cry, that makes me think, that makes me look forward to the next episode. In other words, stargate that makes me happy to be a part of that world.

Date: 2018-02-26 01:52 am (UTC)In both SG1 and Atlantis I felt the characters were totally understood by their actors but that the writers often didn't know what to do with these great characters and amazing world they had created.
There are so many stories in the Pegasus galaxy. There are so many stories that could be told starting with the program going public.
I think it would be cool if some or all of the original team was there in a kind of elder statesman way. I'd love to see where they ended up -- and maybe after all this time Paul Davis got promoted LOL.

Date: 2018-02-26 05:37 am (UTC)I am VERY wary, did I say VERY? of who is involved....I've already had signs of people "returning" after basically "dumping" the whole shebang for shinier and brighter new things and that fact that certain members of a prominent Stargate Forum (and who were also involved in that failed App/Game thingy) are still high on the "running the new show" list....and the fact that I think certain writers are loving all this new found attention again, because quite frankly his blog was getting pretty boring and the readership was dropping off....methinks egos and self-promotion will play a large part in "Origins" and beyond.....
I look for genuinely interested tweets from the Big Three (because Rick has abandoned Twitter & Social Media pretty much) and will gauge how much I might get from this new "revival"....
I am cynical...but at nearly 60 and having stayed loyal in the fandom with a small group of friends, I think I have a right to be....

Date: 2018-02-26 08:32 am (UTC)I worry that it's going down the same road Disney is taking the Star Wars franchise. "Lets just make it quick, we'll worry about making it good later."

Date: 2018-02-26 10:41 am (UTC)Umpteen panics later, we're still waaaaaiiiting (in my case, without the slightest enthusiasm) and every so often the people who bought the rights mutter something. There's been a few audio plays, books...
No TV.
I'm not holding my breath on Stargate till I hear the cameras are rolling :)

Date: 2018-02-26 11:38 am (UTC)This seems like desperation from Mallozzi, and, to be honest, much as I love the show, people have moved on - cast and audience.
I'm wary of who's involved, why they're involved, and what they'll do with our much-loved show.
